These days, it seems there are just as many tree diseases as there are trees in a forest.
Who knows where they’re all coming from, or why they keep showing up, but there’s one thing we can say for sure: they can drastically alter the way a forest looks and feels.
Right now, I’m thinking of a disease that’s a relative newcomer to this part of the world.
Known as beech leaf disease, its main target is (no surprise) American beech.
Turns out, this disease isn’t behaving in an entirely predictable way, and researchers are scratching their heads.
Where is it moving? How fast is it spreading? And why does it sometimes show up in unexpected places?
