Summer Edible & Medicinal Plants & Mushrooms Hike
- Date: July 8, 2017
- Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Created by Adam Haritan
On Saturday, July 8th I will be leading a great event in Western Pennsylvania, and I’d love for you to join us! This time, it’s the Summer Edible & Medicinal Plants & Mushrooms Hike, and it’ll take place at McConnells Mill State Park.
Summer is the perfect season to explore the backcountry in Western Pennsylvania in search of interesting and useful plants, trees, and mushrooms. McConnells Mill State Park, with its deeply-cut gorges, hemlock-lined ravines, whitewater currents, and historical landmarks is a prime area for summer exploration.
During this event, we will hike a 2-mile loop around the iconic Slippery Rock Creek while discussing various subjects related to the area’s summer flora and fungi, including:
—Edible and medicinal plants
—Edible and medicinal mushrooms
—Poisonous plants and mushrooms
—Tree identification, along with edible and medicinal uses
—Medicine-making using wild plants and mushrooms
—Natural history of the area
… and lots more!
I’m really excited to lead this event, as I’ve never taken groups along this particular trail with me during the summer months. In other words… even if you’ve attended previous Learn Your Land events at McConnells Mill State Park, you’ll be sure to discover and learn all kinds of new things on July 8th!
